Traveller's Life

A pair of elderly couple, aged 68 and 70 at present, decided to live around the world a few years ago.  They sold their luxury house in Carlifornia to foot the bills for their wandering life.

They were free to choose any city that captured their fancy and spend a few months in it while planning for the next stop.  With unlimited time, sightseeing could take place in a relaxing manner.  Shopping at the markets and cooking local foods became a daily routine.  The couple intended to stay that way for the rest of their lives as long as their health permitted.

No doubt it sounds wonderful, but I am afraid it may not work for me.  Even though I am lucky enough to have found a travelling partner, I do not have a luxury house to sell, in return of which an investment advisor will dutifully send me US$6,000 every month for my living expenses.

Apart from the money matter, home always occupies a soft spot in my heart.  Lazing around at home is so comfortable that I am happy to do it forever.  Despite all its pollution, congestion and other shortcomings, I still consider this city my home and coming back to it brings me a sense of serenity after an exciting and tiring journey.

Perhaps I have been brainwashed by a veteran Cantonese pop singer, who has quite a number of songs proclaiming that Hong Kong is the most excellent place in the whole wide world and the beautiful scenery in any other countries simply turns pale in comparison.  All I hope is that it will not deteriorate so fast and become uninhabitable within the next fifty years.  Hopefully I will not live to see its demise.

As a humble version of post-retirement dream, I do want to travel around South America for a month or two.  It should be a much more affordable option.
